Illegal activity and insurance
This past weekend I was flipping through the channel and landed on a popular HGTV show, Holmes on Homes. The shows premise is to educate homeowners that hire shady contractors to renovate their home. When shortcuts are taken it leaves the homeowner in a possible dangerous situation. The episode that aired on May 30,2010 (and will air again on June 23, 2010 if you are interested), had a slightly different twist. The homeowner was actually renting out an investment property when the police raided it and called the owner to inform her that the tenants had been engaging in an extensive marijuana operation.
Memorial Day Remembrance
Monday May 31, 2010 is memorial day. For some it just means the beginning of summer or a three day weekend. But the true meaning
behind this holiday is a bit more somber. Thus, for others it is a day to go to the cemetery’s of loved ones and clean the gravestone or just sit quietly.
Originally called Decoration Day this is the day of remembrance for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice serving our nation. In 1915, Moina Michael was inspired to wear red poppies on Memorial Day in honor of those who died in service.
Keep Your Independence as You Age
By the year 2030, one in five Americans will be a “senior citizen” – over the age of 65.
If you are a Baby Boomer, born between the years 1946 and 1964, this includes you.
Odds are 70% you’ll need long term care
Studies predict that an individual today has a 70% chance of needing long term care (LTC) in their lifetime.
Currently, the annual cost to a person needing LTC is near $75,000. In 2030, that figure will skyrocket to $300,000 annually per person for the 23+ million Americans needing LTC. Will you have that kind of money to spare?
SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL…
Earthquakes not covered by basic homeowner’s insurance
When Arizonans felt the effects of the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that hit Baja California, Mexico on Easter Sunday, there were reports of swaying buildings, rattled walls, and sloshing pool waters. but no major damage.
“Historically, the Valley of the Sun has not had any measurable earthquakes since 1875,” explains Frank Capparelle, Sr., Founder, President, and CEO of AnCap Insurance. “Flagstaff is built along some fault lines but there has not been any significant activity in the area that caused damage since 1912.”
Basic homeowners’ insurance policies do NOT cover damage from earthquakes. Thirty-nine states have experienced earthquakes since 1900, and about 90% of Americans live in areas considered seismically active. Yet only a small percentage of people purchase earthquake insurance, which is an addendum to a homeowner’s insurance policy.

Does Your Auto Liability Coverage Meet 2010 Needs?
Have you checked your auto insurance coverage lately to see what your liability coverage is?
Many people still have 1980′s coverage
Too many people are still maintaining 100/300/50 (dollar) liability limits which were excellent levels back in the 1980’s. To review, $100,000 is the limit per person for bodily injury coverage; $300,000 is the total amount for bodily injury coverage (for everyone); and $50,000 is the coverage for property damage.
While rental car companies consider this to be the minimum amount of coverage required, and states have even lower requirements, in today’s dollars you are taking considerable risks every time you drive.
If you were to be involved in an auto accident involving three or four cars, or if one or two individuals were seriously injured, 100/300/50 liability coverage would probably NOT be sufficient enough to cover the costs of the claims. Which means, you would then be hit with the bills which could run into the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.
