Memorial Day Remembrance

Monday May 31, 2010 is memorial day. For some it just means the beginning of summer or a three day weekend. But the true meaning behind this holiday is a bit more somber. Thus, for others it is a day to go to the cemetery’s of loved ones and clean the gravestone or just sit quietly.

Originally called Decoration Day this is the day of remembrance for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice serving our nation. In 1915, Moina Michael was inspired to wear red poppies on Memorial Day in honor of those who died in service.
